Violence erupted in Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh after two vehicles were allegedly crushed by protesters opposing the Centre's agricultural laws. According to unconfirmed reports, many farmers have been seriously injured in this incident. At the same time, according to the Union Minister of State for Home, three BJP workers and a driver have died due to beating of "some elements involved in the farmers' protest". According to the information, internet service has been stopped in Lakhimpur till further orders.

The protesters were protesting against the visit of Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on the Tikonia-Banbirpur road here on Sunday. Angered by the mob lynching of the protesters, the people allegedly forcibly stopped two vehicles and set them on fire. They have also allegedly thrashed some passengers. The farmers were protesting against Maurya's visit to Banbirpur, which is the native village of Union Minister of State for Home and Kheri MP Ajay Kumar Mishra.

The United Kisan Morcha, which is leading the farmers' agitation across the country against the agriculture laws of the Centre, has demanded that the investigation of the incident in Lakhimpur Kheri should be done by the sitting judge of the Supreme Court instead of getting it from the Uttar Pradesh administration. Meanwhile, Yogendra Yadav, associated with the farmers' movement, said that farmers across the country would protest outside the District Magistrate's offices on Monday to protest against the two vehicles being crushed by the protesters in Lakhimpur Kheri.

There are also reports of some journalists getting injured in the violence in Lakhimpur. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Maurya's visit to Banbirpur village has been canceled in view of the violence. Opposition parties Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, Rashtriya Lok Dal and Bharatiya Kisan Union have reacted sharply to this incident and have blamed the BJP and the son of Minister of State for Home for the incident.

Farmers attacked not workers - Minister of State for Home

Meanwhile, Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Kumar Mishra told a channel that some workers were going to bring Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, who was coming to attend the programme. He told that on the way, the farmers protesting in Tikunia pelted stones on the car of the workers, due to which the vehicle overturned. Talking to the news agency, he said that in Lakhimpur Kheri, three BJP workers and a driver were killed in beating up "some elements involved in the farmers' protest".

He said that his son had no involvement in the incident. The Minister of State for Home claimed, “It was not the workers but the farmers who attacked the workers. There were also some chaotic elements in the form of farmers. He himself has done the incident. This matter will be investigated in an impartial manner."

Akhilesh Yadav, president of the Samajwadi Party and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, tweeted, "It is a very inhuman cruel act to trample the farmers peacefully protesting against the agriculture laws by the son of the Minister of State for Home of the BJP government." Yadav demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister in a tweet regarding the incident. He tweeted, "Just had a brief conversation with Tejinder Singh Virk ji, who was seriously injured in the incident of being trampled by BJPmen in Lakhimpuri Kheri, in view of his very serious condition, the government should provide him the best treatment." Akhilesh further wrote, "Just one demand, the Chief Minister should resign."

BSP President and former Chief Minister of the state Mayawati tweeted, "Farmers agitating for the return of three agricultural laws in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh, allegedly trampled by the Union Minister's son with the car of several farmers. The murder was very sad. It shows the dictatorship and brutality of the BJP government which is also their real face." He said, “Even in relation to this incident, the victims are not expected to get proper justice from the government. Therefore, the Hon'ble Supreme Court itself should take cognizance of this sad incident, this is the demand of BSP. Also, the local delegation of BSP has also been directed to go to the spot."

The Bharatiya Kisan Union tweeted and claimed, “The farmers agitating in Lakhimpur Kheri were trampled by the son of Minister of State for Home, Teni, three farmers were killed, Tejendra Singh Virk was also injured.
