BRICS Summit: During the ongoing 16th BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, China has issued an important statement after the bilateral talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday. China termed the meeting as "highly important" and said that the two leaders have indicated reaching "important consensus" to improve bilateral relations.Prospects for improving bilateral relationsChina's Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian told reporters that the meeting between PM Modi and Xi Jinping has paved the way for taking bilateral relations towards stable development. He said, "China is ready to view bilateral relations from a strategic height and long-term perspective and will work with India to advance it."Resolve to resolve differencesAfter this meeting, Lin made it clear that China will try to resolve its differences with India. Along with this, the desire has been expressed to promote communication and cooperation, strengthen mutual strategic trust and take bilateral relations towards stable development as soon as possible.Agreement on LACDuring the BRICS summit in Kazan, Modi and Xi endorsed the India-China agreement reached on Monday regarding patrolling and withdrawal of troops along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. Following this, instructions have also been issued to reactivate various bilateral dialogue mechanisms. The move is a sign of efforts to normalise relations that have been affected since a serious military clash in 2020.This bilateral dialogue is expected to improve relations between India and China and promote cooperation between the two countries.
