PUNJAB | Congress leader Manish Tewari has expressed surprise over the party's decision to sack senior leader and former MLA Kewal Singh Dhillon from the party without any prior notice. Congress national spokesperson said on Twitter, "Shocked to read the news of Kewal Singh Dhillon being summarily expelled from Congress without any notice. When no one was ready to invest a penny in Punjab during the days of terror, So he came to Punjab with PepsiCo."

The Congress on 16 February issued a press statement signed by the party's Punjab in-charge Harish Chaudhary, announcing Dhillon's expulsion from the party. "The Disciplinary Action Committee has expelled Kewal Singh Dhillon from the party with immediate effect in view of his anti-party activities," the statement said.

Speculations of Manish Tewari leaving the Congress had intensified after another senior party member Ashwini Kumar resigned from the party. At that time Manish Tewari had said that he was shocked by Ashwini Kumar's decision to leave the party.

Earlier this week, Manish Tewari had said in an interview to a TV channel that he was not leaving the Congress but was seeking democratic reforms in the party. On the question of leaving the Congress, like some other senior leaders, he said, "I will cross the bridge when I reach there."

Manish Tewari, however, rubbished speculations that he was contemplating his resignation, saying he was "not a tenant of the Congress, I am a shareholder".
