The concept behind not letting the lamp go out is that due to the continuous burning of the lamp without any break, its energy covers the whole house or even a particular area. The negativity or upper obstacle, which is also called bad vibration, automatically gets destroyed in the area covered by the fire god, hence the tradition of lighting an unbroken flame throughout Navratri.
