India beat West Indies by 3 runs in the first ODI to start the tour with a win. Team India has now taken a 1-0 lead in the 3-match ODI series. Batting first, India had put 308 runs on the board, in front of which the hosts could score 305 runs. West Indies needed 15 runs in the last over, but they could not achieve the target due to the superb bowling of Siraj. After the match, spinner Yuzvendra Chahal told that Siraj was given bowling in the last over due to good yorker bowling.

In the post-match press conference, Chahal said, 'We were confident that Siraj could defend 15 runs in the final over as he was bowling his yorker. He had barely missed a yorker or two in his last two overs as well. We had confidence, but there was also pressure. The way they (West Indies) were batting. When Sanju Samson made that defense off the wide ball, it boosted our confidence.

Regarding his bowling, Chahal said, 'I knew that the ball was getting old and you can trap the batsman in the spin. I was changing my line and bowling outside because the boundary on the leg side was short. I wanted them to hit me on the cover.

After IPL, Chahal was also seen bowling in the death overs in ODI cricket. Regarding the two overs he bowled after 40 overs against West Indies, he said, 'It gave me a lot of confidence. I bowled two overs after 40 overs. My role is clear to me. I practice accordingly in the nets and discuss my plans with the coaches.
