America-Russia Relations: The US has expanded the scope of sanctions on Russia and imposed more than 300 new sanctions, which are broadly aimed at preventing individuals and companies from various countries, including China, the United Arab Emirates and Turkey, from helping Russia. The US has taken this step ahead of the G7 summit in Italy, in which increasing support for Ukraine and eliminating Russia's war machinery will be top priorities.

Chinese companies on target

The sanctions imposed on Wednesday target those Chinese companies that are helping Russia in the war against Ukraine. The US has imposed sanctions on four thousand Russian companies and individuals since the war began, with the aim of stopping the money and weapons coming to Russia.

'Continuous process against Russia'

Aron Forsberg, the State Department's director of economic sanctions policy and implementation, told the Associated Press, "Putin is a very capable opponent who is constantly working to find allies." He said that sanctions against Russia are an ongoing process.

The purpose behind the sanctions

The sanctions imposed on Wednesday target trade worth more than US$100 million between Russia and its war suppliers. The main purpose of these more than 300 new sanctions is to prevent individuals and companies from various countries, including China, the United Arab Emirates and Turkey, from helping Russia.
