Arpita's 4 luxury cars missing

Sources revealed on Friday that Arpita Mukherjee, an aide of Partha Chatterjee, told that four luxury cars were missing from her residence in the Diamond City complex of Kolkata. The cars are missing after the ED arrested Arpita from the flat. Officials are currently trying to trace the missing cars through CCTV footage.

The ED on July 22 recovered Rs 21.90 crore in cash from the residence of Arpita Mukherjee, a "close aide" of former West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee. The investigating agency has also recovered foreign currency worth Rs 56 lakh and gold worth Rs 76 lakh. The ED recovered Rs 28.90 crore in cash, over 5 kg of gold and several documents from Arpita Mukherjee's second apartment, days after the first raid.

Partha Chatterjee is involved in the alleged recruitment scam of Group 'C' and 'D' employees, assistant teachers of classes IX-XII and primary teachers. The recovered amount is suspected to be proceeds of crime from teacher recruitment scam. Partha Chatterjee and Arpita Mukherjee have been sent to ED custody till August 3.

Earlier ED sources said that Arpita had confessed that the recovered money belonged to Partha Chatterjee and his flat was used to keep his money. He also said that he had no idea that there was such a huge amount in that flat. Arpit told the ED during interrogation that Partha Chatterjee used to come to the flat and he knew about the money.

Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress on Thursday suspended Partha Chatterjee, following pressure from both the party and the opposition. He was also removed from the Bengal ministry after his arrest by the ED in the teacher recruitment scam case.
