Champions Trophy 2025: The ICC Champions Trophy was to be held in Pakistan this time, but now there is a possibility of losing the hosting of this tournament. Disputes between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are complicating the issue. Pakistan wants Team India to come to Pakistan for this tournament, while the BCCI has clearly refused. Not only this, Pakistan has also refused to adopt the hybrid model. Due to this, the ICC is now considering another option for organizing the Champions Trophy, and that option could be South Africa.

Disagreement on the hybrid model and ICC's new option

Pakistan's stance is that the Indian team should come and play on their land for the Champions Trophy, while the BCCI says that this journey is not possible for the Indian team. Along with this, Pakistan has also refused to accept the hybrid model. In the hybrid model, some matches could be played in Pakistan and some in other countries. In such a situation, ICC now has the option of giving hosting rights to South Africa, and it is considering it.

Champions Trophy in South Africa again after 16 years?

Champions Trophy was held in South Africa 16 years ago in 2009. Australia won that tournament, while Pakistan, New Zealand and England reached the semi-finals. The final was played between Australia and New Zealand, in which Australia won. Talking about India, it was eliminated from the group stage itself. After losing to Pakistan, India did not have a special performance in the tournament.

Indian batsmen are facing problems in South Africa

The performance of Indian batsmen was also not special in the 2009 Champions Trophy. Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was able to score only 3 runs in the entire tournament, while Sachin Tendulkar scored 8 runs in 2 matches. At the same time, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir and Dinesh Karthik were also not able to make any significant contribution. However, Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli scored half centuries. If the Champions Trophy is held in South Africa once again, then the Indian batsmen may again have to face the challenge of the pitch.

Pressure will increase on Pakistan Cricket Board

Now the question is which path the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) takes in this dispute. If Pakistan does not agree to the hybrid model, then South Africa may get the hosting of the tournament. This can cause a big financial loss to the PCB. Pakistan may lose crores of rupees by organizing the tournament in South Africa, which will be a big blow.

Therefore, the pressure is increasing on the PCB to accept the hybrid model and get ready to host the Champions Trophy. After this new direction of the ICC, Pakistan's decision is awaited, as it will decide whether the Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan or South Africa.
