IPL 2025: The first match of IPL 2025 will be played on March 22. Before this, the BCCI is in full action mode and the process of finalizing the preparations is going on. Meanwhile, an important news has come out, which can benefit the bowlers, but the difficulties of the batsmen may increase.

Important meeting of captains will be held on March 20

The BCCI has already announced that a meeting of the captains of all the 10 IPL teams will be held in Mumbai on March 20. The presence of all the captains will be mandatory in this meeting and an official photoshoot will also be organized during this time. The most important issue will be whether the bowlers will be allowed to apply saliva on the ball for IPL 2025.

Applying saliva was banned in 2020

Before the Kovid-19 pandemic, bowlers used saliva to shine the ball, which helped them in swing and seam movement. However, due to the pandemic in 2020, the ICC imposed a temporary ban on it, which was made a permanent rule in 2022. Due to this, saliva was not allowed on the ball in IPL as well.

Will the rule change in IPL?

The rules of IPL are somewhat different from the ICC, and due to this the BCCI is now reconsidering it. A senior BCCI official told PTI that the ban imposed at the time of Kovid no longer makes any sense. If all the captains agree to this, bowlers may be allowed to apply saliva again in IPL 2025 starting from March 22.

Will the difficulties of the batsmen increase?

If this rule is implemented, it will help the bowlers to get extra swing and shine the ball, which may make it difficult for the batsmen to score runs. Many former and current bowlers around the world have already demanded to bring back this rule.

Now all eyes are on the meeting to be held on March 20, where the final decision will be taken on this proposal. If a consensus is reached, this season of IPL 2025 can prove to be beneficial for the bowlers and challenging for the batsmen.
