IPL 2025: A total of 577 players tried their luck in the mega auction of IPL 2025, but 395 of them did not find any buyer. However, there were some unsold players among them, whose luck suddenly shone and they became the owners of lakhs and crores of rupees. The reason for this is the 'player replacement rule' of IPL, due to which some players got a huge amount even before the tournament started. Let us know what this rule is and which players got the benefit of it.

Replacement rule got a huge amount According to the 'player replacement' rule of IPL, if a player gets injured or is out of the tournament due to any other reason, then the franchise can include unsold players in their team in their place. Due to this rule, some players got IPL tickets even after the auction.

Which players benefited?

In the IPL 2025 season, some prominent players had to be out due to injury, who were replaced by unsold players.

  • Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) roped in Chetan Sakariya as a replacement for pacer Umran Malik after he was injured. He got Rs 75 lakh for this.
  • Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) roped in Wiaan Mulder due to Brydon Carse's injury and he too was given a contract of Rs 75 lakh.
  • Mumbai Indians (MI) made two major changes:
  • Mujeeb ur Rahman replaced Allah Ghazanfar in the team for which he got Rs 2 crore.
  • Corbin Bosch got a chance in place of Lizaad Williams and got a deal of Rs 30 lakh.
What do the BCCI rules say? As per the player replacement rules set by the BCCI:

  • The player taken as a replacement must be part of the IPL's Registered Available Player Pool (RAPP).
  • His fee will be equal to his base price, but it cannot be more than the fee of the player who is out.
  • The fee of the replacement player will not be added to the team's current season's salary cap.
  • If a player's contract is extended for the next season, his fee will be added to the team's salary cap.
  • The team will have to follow the rules of the maximum number of the squad.
  • In case the replacement player is retained for the next season, he will be considered a part of the main squad.
Conclusion
