Bhupesh Baghel News: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday raided several places including the residences of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel in Raipur and Bhilai. The action also reached the residential premises of a senior police officer and a close aide of the former chief minister. However, the CBI has not yet clarified under which specific case this raid is being conducted.

Background of the raid

Earlier also, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had raided Bhupesh Baghel's residence in connection with the alleged liquor scam. On March 10, the ED had searched his residence in Bhilai as part of the investigation into money laundering allegations against his son Chaitanya Baghel. Also, action was taken at 13 other places including Laxmi Narayan Bansal alias Pappu Bansal, an alleged close aide of Chaitanya Baghel, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Bhupesh Baghel's office's response

Bhupesh Baghel's office issued a statement regarding this raid. It said that the former Chief Minister was going to Delhi on Wednesday for the meeting of the drafting committee constituted by the All India Congress Committee (AICC). Just before this, the CBI team reached his residences in Raipur and Bhilai.

Political reaction and possible impact

Many speculations are being made about the political impact of this raid. The Congress party has recently constituted a 15-member drafting committee, which includes Bhupesh Baghel. This committee also includes General Secretary in-charge of Chhattisgarh Sachin Pilot and Randeep Surjewala as convener. In such a situation, the raid is also being seen politically.
