Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's extraordinary leadership abilities and global influence during his visit to India. He said PM Modi is able to communicate with every leader in the world and is "a key geopolitical player" in the current global scenario.During his address at Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Boric said, "Prime Minister Modi is a leader in today's times who can communicate with every major figure in the world. Whether it is Trump, Zelensky, EU representatives, Greece, Iran or Latin American leaders, PM Modi's diplomatic influence is vast. This is something that is difficult to say for any other leader. Therefore, he is an important player in today's global environment."'India has changed'President Boric expressed gratitude for the warm welcome he received in India and said, "This is my first state visit and would like to thank the hospitality I have received here. For the last 16 years, no one from Chile had visited India, and in these years India has seen unprecedented change." He further said that Chile is committed to further strengthening its bilateral relations with India.'Chile is connected to the world'Highlighting Chile's global position, President Boric said, "Chile is a country that is connected to the world, and now we want to further strengthen our relations with India. We have signed several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), which will promote trade and cultural exchange between the two countries."He said, "Chile is not dependent on any one particular country. We have relations with countries like China, the United States, the European Union, Latin America, Asia-Pacific, Japan, Indonesia and Australia. Now we are working to further deepen our relations with India."President Boric will also visit Agra, Mumbai and BengaluruChile's President Gabriel Boric is on a visit to India from 1 to 5 April 2025 at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He is accompanied by senior officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Agriculture, Mining, Women and Gender Equality, Culture, Arts and Heritage and a business delegation. Apart from New Delhi, President Boric will visit Agra, Mumbai and Bengaluru.New chapter in India-Chile relationsAccording to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Boric first met during the G20 summit held in Rio de Janeiro in November 2024. During this visit to India, President Boric held bilateral talks with PM Modi at Hyderabad House. He also met the President of India Draupadi Murmu, who hosted a banquet in his honour. Also, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also met President Boric and discussed mutual cooperation and relations.This high-level dialogue between Chile and India will prove to be an important step towards strengthening bilateral trade, investment, technology partnership and cultural ties.
