Dana Cyclonic Storm: Cyclone Dana made landfall in Dhamra in Bhadrak district of Odisha last night, which hit the coast at 12:45 am. At this time its speed was around 120 kmph, indicating major devastation in the coastal areas of Odisha and West Bengal. Strong winds and torrential rains are still continuing in these areas. During the storm, the speed of the winds is reaching 100 to 120 kmph, due to which people are facing difficulties.

Strong winds wreaked havoc, trees and hoardings fell on the roads

Due to the storm, trees were uprooted in various areas of Odisha, blocking many roads. Hoardings and boards have also fallen due to strong winds, disrupting life. According to the Meteorological Department, even after the landfall, the spell of rain may intensify in the coastal areas, which may lead to flood situation. The state administration has activated all emergency services and security measures.

10 lakh people shifted in Odisha, extensive preparations in Bengal too

In view of this serious situation, the Odisha administration has made special arrangements. Teams of NDRF, SDRF and district administration are deployed in the affected areas. 10 lakh people have been shifted to safer places from 14 districts of Odisha, while 3.5 lakh people have been shifted to safer places in West Bengal. Air and rail traffic has also been affected in Bengal and Odisha due to the storm; 300 flights and 552 trains have been canceled, due to which passengers are also facing difficulties.

Heavy damage in Dhamra and Bhadrak, people warned

The storm has caused extensive impact in Dhamra and Bhadrak areas of Odisha. Due to strong winds and heavy rains, many trees and electricity poles have been uprooted, due to which power supply has also been disrupted. The local administration has warned people to stay indoors and appealed to avoid any unnecessary activity.

Vigilance of State Disaster Teams, CM Mamata Banerjee's eye

The effect of Cyclone Dana is also visible in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. The State Disaster Management Team is constantly monitoring the situation. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is also taking stock of the situation with emergency officials so that relief can be provided on time.

Heavy rain alert in many states

The effect of Cyclone Dana can be felt in Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh apart from Odisha and West Bengal. Rain and strong winds will continue in these states. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert and appealed to the people to be cautious.
