Cyclone Dana News: The low pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal may soon turn into a cyclonic storm. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that by October 23 (Wednesday), this low pressure area may take the form of a powerful cyclone. This storm will affect the coastal areas of Odisha and West Bengal. The Meteorological Department has warned fishermen to return from the sea by Monday to avoid any untoward incident.

Cyclonic storm named 'Dana'

This cyclone has been named 'Dana'. According to the Meteorological Department, its effect can be seen in wide areas and due to this there will be a sudden change in the weather of many states. Apart from this, a heavy rain alert has been issued in many areas, advising the local administration and people to remain alert.

Possibility of landfall

Although the exact location of the cyclone's landfall has not been determined yet, according to preliminary reports, this storm may landfall on the coast of Puri. On Sunday, it was informed that this cyclone is gradually intensifying over the North Andaman Sea and the adjoining Bay of Bengal. The area around the east-central part of the Bay of Bengal and the North Andaman Sea is already under low pressure, which is in the direction of becoming a cyclone.

Date of change in the form of cyclone

The Meteorological Department has informed that this storm is moving towards the west-northwest direction and can turn into a full cyclonic storm over the east-central Bay of Bengal by October 23 i.e. Wednesday. During this, strong winds will blow in the sea area and heavy rains may occur in coastal areas. Its effect will be especially seen on the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal on October 24.

Effect of storm: Rain alert

The Meteorological Department has already issued a warning of heavy rains in the coastal areas of Odisha and West Bengal between October 24-25. Rainfall of 20 to 30 cm has been predicted at some places, and more than 30 cm of rainfall may occur in many areas. Due to this, floods and waterlogging can occur, which can affect life in the affected areas.

Impact in West Bengal and Odisha

Due to cyclone 'Dana', heavy rains are expected in many districts of West Bengal and Odisha. Heavy rain alert has been issued especially in East Medinipur, West Medinipur, South 24 Parganas and North 24 Parganas districts of West Bengal. Similarly, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Kandhamal and Gajapati districts of Odisha are also likely to receive heavy rains and thunderstorms. Heavy rains are also expected in Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly and Jhargram districts between October 23 and 24.

Administration's preparation

The local administration and state governments have started preparations even before the storm. Fishermen have been instructed to return from the sea and an alert has been issued in the coastal areas. Local citizens have been appealed to stay in safe places and follow the instructions issued by the Meteorological Department.

In view of the possibility of loss of life and property due to this cyclone, the government has deployed disaster management teams in the coastal areas and necessary relief material is being arranged.
