India / Delete tweets or face action: Amruta to Nawab after sending notice

Mumbai: In the battle of defamation suits, Amruta Fadnavis, wife of former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, sent a legal notice to Maharashtra Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Nawab Malik over defamation and sharing tweets that claim the connection between her and alleged drug peddler Jagdeep Rana.

As per the legal notice, shared by Amruta Fadnavis on her official Twitter handle, the allegations levelled by Nawab Malik that there is a connection between Amruta Fadnavis and alleged drug peddler Jagdeep Rana are ‘baseless’.

While stating that if Malik doesn't delete the tweets in 48 hours with an unconditional public apology, Amruta Fadnavis on her official Twitter handle writes, "Mr Nawab Malik shared series of defamatory, misleading and maligning tweets including some pictures! Here is the Notice of Defamation including criminal proceedings under various Sections of IPC."

"The allegations are made to gain cheap political mileage and with the sole intention to divert the attention of the public from the misrule and failure of the ruling government and the actions taken by central agencies against the drug menace," reads the legal notice.

Further stating that if Nawab Malik doesn't comply with the instructions mentioned in the notice such as removing the defamatory tweets within 48 hours an appropriate proceeding will be initiated "including but not limited to, criminal proceedings under section 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 1860 as well as any other criminal proceedings and a civil suit of defamation" against Malik.

Earlier today, the Maharashtra Minister Nawab Malik's son-in-law Sameer Khan, who was arrested in a drug-related case earlier this year, had sent a legal notice to former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis over defamation and demanded Rs 5 crore for inflicting ‘mental torture, agony and financial loss.
