New Delhi: The Delhi Police detained several resident doctors who were marching to the Supreme Court in protest against the delay in NEET 2021 counseling.The protest was held by the Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA). The president of the association, Dr Manish, is amongst those who have been detained.FORDA CALLS FOR STRIKEIn a statement issued, FORDA claimed "police brutality" and called it a "Black day in the history of the medical fraternity". It condemned police action and announced that all healthcare institutions would be completely shutdown from today."Resident Doctors, the so-called “Corona Warriors”, protesting peacefully to expedite NEET PG Counselling 2021 were brutally thrashed, dragged and detained by the police. There will be complete shutdown of all Healthcare Institutions from today onwards!" the statement read.Further, they demanded the immediate release of all representatives of FORDA and the resident doctors detained.Reacting to the development, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter saying: "Showering flowers was a PR stunt, in reality it is injustice that is pouring. I am with covid warriors against the tyranny of the central government." (Roughly translated from Hindi).The doctors were taking a march out to the Supreme Court in protest against the delay in NEET-PG 2021 counselling. They were stopped by the Delhi Police.POLICE REMOVES PROTESTING DOCTORS BLOCKING ROADEarlier, some 70-80 doctors blocked the road on Bahadur Shah Zafar during protests and reportedly tried to block both carriagways. The police then took some protesting doctors into custody.A clash ensued between the police and the doctors. After that, some doctors allegedly broke the glasses of the police vehicle.Police detained 12 doctors, who were later released. As many as seven policemen received minor injuries.Later, some resident doctors, who were trying to march towards Union Health Minister's residence, were detained in front of Sarojini Nagar police station. The protesting resident doctors were singing the national anthem before being detained.
