Karnataka Government: The Karnataka government has closed a Bengaluru mall for seven days, which allegedly denied entry to a farmer for wearing a dhoti and a white shirt. The government on Thursday ordered the mall to be closed for seven days. The action to close the mall began shortly after the order came. The incident of allegedly denying entry to the farmer in the mall has been strongly condemned by all party members in the Assembly. The government described the alleged humiliation of the farmer as an attack on "dignity and self-respect" and said it would not be tolerated. Urban Development Minister B. Suresh told the House, "I asked the BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) Commissioner what can be done. The government has the authority. Immediate action will be taken against the (GT World) mall as per the law and we will ensure that the mall remains closed for seven days."Permission not given for wearing dhotiSocial Welfare Minister H.C. Mahadevappa said the incident was condemnable. He said, "Self-respect and dignity is important for every person, it has been violated and the government will take action." The incident took place on Tuesday when 70-year-old Fakirappa, from Haveri district, along with his wife and son, had gone to a mall to watch a movie in a multiplex. Fakirappa was reportedly wearing a white shirt and 'panche' (dhoti). The mall security guard allegedly told him and his son that they would not be allowed inside wearing 'panche'.Farmer taught all nine childrenHe asked the guard to "come wearing trousers." Earlier, Assembly Speaker U T Khader raised the issue and asked the government to take action. Congress MLA from Ranebennur Prakash Koliwad said the farmer was a resident of a village under his constituency. He said, "The farmer has educated all his nine children. One of his sons is pursuing MBA here in Bengaluru and the son wanted to take his father to the mall. The farmer was insulted because of his attire and the mall should be shut down.” Opposition leader R. Ashok said that such issues have been discussed in the House earlier as well, but what was the result. The Speaker or the government will have to issue some orders, which the bureaucrats should strictly follow.
