Chanrayaan-3: The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) said that the Chandrayaan-3 mission is attempting a soft landing on the Moon on Wednesday, August 23. The space agency said all systems are being regularly checked and Vikram rover continues to operate smoothly. ISRO has informed that the mission is on schedule and regular system checks are underway. Everything continues smoothly. Mission Operations Complex (MOX) is full of energy and excitement!
ISRO informed that the live telecast of the landing operation on MOX/ISTRAC will begin on August 23, 2023 at 17:20 hrs IST.Space agency ISRO had also shared pictures of the Moon taken by the Lander Position Detection Camera (LPDC) on August 19, 2023, from an altitude of about 70 km.Chandrayaan-3's journey so far-:July 6: ISRO announced that the Chandrayaan-3 mission will launch on July 14 from the second launch pad at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh.July 7: All tests completed successfully.11 July: A 24-hour 'launch rehearsal' was successfully conducted.July 14: ISRO's LVM3 M4 launches Chandrayaan-3 into its designated orbit.July 15: The first orbit raising procedure of the mission was successful in Bengaluru. The spacecraft reached an orbit of 41762 km x 173 km.July 17: Chandrayaan-3 was placed in an orbit of 41603 km x 226 km after second orbit raising.July 22: The fourth orbit raising, Earth-bound perigee firing, successfully placed the spacecraft into an orbit of 71351 km x 233 km.July 25: Another orbit raising attempt was successfully made.August 1: In a significant milestone, Chandrayaan-3 entered translunar orbit with an orbit of 288 km x 369328 km.August 5: The spacecraft entered the Moon's orbit at 164 km x 18074 km.August 6: The spacecraft's orbit was reduced to 170 km x 4,313 km around the Moon.August 9: Another exercise was carried out bringing the spacecraft down to 174 km x 1437 km.14 August: The mission entered the circular phase of the 151 km x 179 km orbit.August 16: After firing, the spacecraft entered an orbit of 153 km x 163 km.August 17: The landing module, comprising Vikram lander and Pragyan rover, was separated from its propulsion system.18 August: The spacecraft successfully completed a 'deboosting' operation, reducing its orbit to 113 km x 157 km. Deboosting is the process of slowing itself down to place itself in an orbit where the closest point of the orbit to the Moon (perilune) is 30 km and the farthest point (apolune) is 100 km.August 20: Chandrayaan-3 performed the second and final deboosting operation and reduced the LM orbit to 25 km x 134 km.August 23: If all goes well and according to plan, the spacecraft will land on the lunar surface.Meanwhile, a senior ISRO scientist on Monday said that the national space agency will go ahead with the landing only if the conditions are "favourable" on that day; Else retry will be done on 27th August.Chandrayaan-3 Mission:
