J&K Election 2024: Indian security forces on Wednesday conducted an important operation in the forests located near the Line of Control in the Keran sector of Jammu and Kashmir and recovered a huge cache of weapons and ammunition. This success is the result of a high level of intelligence and coordinated efforts, which has provided the security forces with an opportunity to play an important role in preventing terrorist activities.Weapons hidden by terroristsAccording to sources, the terrorists had hidden these weapons and ammunition at a depth of 10 feet. The purpose of hiding these items at such a depth was to influence the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and spread the fear of terrorism in the area. These weapons were hidden by Pakistan-backed terrorists to disrupt the electoral process.Alertness of security forcesThis operation was carried out by the Indian Army based on information from the Special Election Observer and Intelligence Agencies. The Srinagar-based Indian Army's Chinar Corps informed about this important discovery through a post on the social media platform 'X'. The post mentioned that a huge quantity of arms, ammunition and explosive material was recovered in this operation jointly conducted by the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in Keran sector of Kupwara. This includes AK-47 cartridges, hand grenades, material used in making IEDs and other military equipment.Continuing fight against terroristsEarlier on Wednesday, two terrorists belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammed were killed during an encounter in the upper reaches of Basantgarh in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir. An M-4 carbine, an AK rifle, a pistol, a huge quantity of ammunition and food items were also recovered along with the bodies of the slain terrorists in this encounter. The encounter took place in a dense forest and was the first successful operation against terrorists here in the last 6 months.A big achievement for the security forcesThis success of the security forces is being considered important from the point of view of regional security.
