Professor Shantisree Dhulipudi Pandit of Savitribai Phule University has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of JNU. Professor Shantisree Dhulipudi Pandit will be the first woman Vice Chancellor of JNU. According to education ministry officials, the tenure of Professor Pandit as VC of Jawaharlal Nehru University will be for a period of five years.Journey from JNU student to first woman vice chancellorThis is the first time that a woman vice-chancellor will be heading this prestigious university in the country. Professor Shantisree Dhulipudi Pandit has been a Professor in the Department of Politics and Public Administration at Pune University. He has vast experience. She is also an alumnus of JNU.Also studied at Presidency College, Madras and California State UniversityProfessor Pandit holds an MPhil in International Relations from JNU and a PhD on Indian Parliament and Foreign Policy. He also has a Diploma in Social Work from the renowned California State University in America. Also BA in History and Social Psychology and MA Political Science from Presidency College, Madras.Will replace Prof Jagdish KumarThe post was vacant after JNU's acting vice-chancellor Professor M Jagadesh Kumar was appointed as the chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC). Professor Kumar was handling the responsibility of the acting Vice-Chancellor since the completion of his term.
