PUNJAB | Drug problem in Punjab is old. In the year 2016, there was a film 'Udta Punjab' in which the problem of drug addiction was shown in the state. Even before and after this film, many claims are being made about the action against drugs in the state. However, a video revealing these claims is becoming very viral on social media these days. In this video purportedly captured in Maqboolpura area of Amritsar, a woman is seen taking a drug injection. The girl standing on the middle of the road looks helpless. She seems to be struggling to move. Her condition is so bad that she cannot even take a step. The person making the video is seen talking about the pathetic condition of the area. The area is said to be notorious for drug abuse and is home to many drug addicts. In the video, the man can be heard saying that the condition of the woman was allegedly caused by the injection of smack.Several incidents related to drug abuse have also come to the fore from Maqboolpura area of Amritsar and several de-addiction 'campaigns' have also been launched by the police in the area. After the video went viral, the police launched a search operation in the area on Sunday. Three people have been arrested and intoxicants have been recovered from them. A case has also been registered.According to the Tribune report, a day after the incident, Police Commissioner Arun Pal Singh said that the Punjab government was also trying religiously to tackle the problem of drug abuse in the state. He said the person who made the video should have informed the police instead of uploading it on social media. He said that on receiving information about any crime, the police took immediate action. He said that since April 1 till now they have registered 483 cases under the NDPS Act, in which 650 people have been arrested.
