India opener Rohit Sharma has become the fastest batsman to score 2,000 runs against a particular team in ODIs, achieving the feat against Australia during his 57-run knock in their World Cup match today. The 32-year-old reached the milestone in 37 innings, breaking the record held by Sachin Tendulkar, who reached 2,000 ODI runs also against Australia in 40 innings.

Rohit Sharma overtook MS Dhoni and broke Sachin Tendulkar's record during his half-century against Australia in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 on Sunday.

Rohit Sharma hit his 355th  international six during the match overtaking MS Dhoni's tally of 354. MS Dhoni is also a part of India's playing 11 for the match. Rohit and Dhoni have been part of this race for a long time with each overtaking other. Rohit is now behind Chris Gayle (520), Shahid Afridi (476) and Brendon McCullum (398) in the list.

Rohit Sharma also broke another record on Sunday as he crossed 2000 runs against Australia in ODIs. He became the fourth batsman to score more than 2000 runs against the side. He also became the fastest batsman to do so against any opponent in ODI history.

Earlier, Sachin Tendulkar held the record of the fastest 2000 runs against Australia. The former cricketer had taken 40 innings to achieve the milestone. Rohit, however, required just 37 to overtake the Master Blaster. Rohit needed only 18 runs to reach the milestone.
