Former bureaucrats have become active in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. Many senior officers including DGP Shesh Paul Vaid, DIG Israr Khan, and SSP Mohan Kaith are preparing to enter politics. They are expected to field candidates from BJP and National Conference.

Jammu-Kashmir News: Ahead of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, several former bureaucrats are getting ready to try their luck in politics. These include retired DGP Shesh Paul Vaid, DIG Israr Khan, SSP Mohan Kaith, and Mohan Lal Bhagat. All of them have started preparations for potential seats, and most are trying to contest on BJP ticket. Their names are in discussion on various seats, and their entry into the electoral fray may be announced in the coming days.

Who will contest from which seat?

Among the retired police officers who are in discussion to contest the assembly elections, most are trying to become candidates from BJP. They have also started putting full force for this. According to sources, BJP is also preparing to field them on the electoral pitch. Especially there is more emphasis on seats reserved for the Dalit community. Out of these, they have also been kept in the panel of potential candidates contesting from BJP. It is believed that the names of the officers contesting the elections will also come out in the next few days.

Former DGP SP Vaid is preparing to contest elections from his home district. Vaid is a resident of Mahanpur town in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir. He comes from a Dogra family. That is why SP Vaid wants to contest elections from Kathua or any seat in Jammu division. He has been praising the policies of the Modi government for a long time. Apart from this, he had raised the cases of attack on Hindus in Bangladesh on social media. He had said that those who criticize CAA should pay attention to the ongoing crisis in Bangladesh. Apart from this, he is continuously active in his Kathua area. Due to this, it is believed that he can contest the elections on a BJP ticket.

Will Israr Khan contest elections from Kashmir?

Former DIG of Jammu and Kashmir Israr Khan is also busy with full force to contest the elections. Israr Khan is known as Lali Khan. In the year 2014, he left his job as a police officer and joined the National Conference. Lali Khan, who belongs to a prominent family of Udhampur, is trying to contest from a seat in Kashmir region. He is considered to be one of the close leaders of Omar Abdullah. In such a situation, it is believed that the National Conference can field him in the election this time.

BJP can bet on Mohan Kaith from Marh seat

The Home Department of Jammu and Kashmir has approved the voluntary retirement of IPS Mohan Lal Kaith from 31 August 2024 under Article 230 of Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services Regulation Section-1. Mohan Kaith can contest from Marh assembly constituency of Jammu district. Marh seat is reserved for Scheduled Castes. It is believed that he can contest the election on a BJP ticket. That is why he has taken BRS from the job. His name is included among the possible candidates of BJP.

Discussion about Mohan Lal Bhagat also

There is talk of SSP Mohan Lal Bhagat contesting the assembly elections. He has also applied for his retirement before time, but has not got approval yet. There are speculations that Mohan Lal Bhagat will contest from Akhnoor reserved seat. This seat is reserved for the Dalit community. In such a situation, it is believed that Bhagat can enter politics on a BJP ticket. No order has been issued yet regarding Mohan Lal Bhagat's VRS application. If BRS is not approved, then he will not be able to contest the elections.

Apart from this, there is also talk of SP KD Bhagat contesting the elections, but he has neither applied for retirement nor is his political activity visible. However, there is a discussion in political circles that KD Bhagat can contest from Akhnoor seat.
