Jammu-Kashmir News: After the results of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made a significant change in its state unit and appointed Sat Sharma as the new state president of Jammu and Kashmir BJP. At the same time, former state president Ravinder Raina has been made a member of the party's national executive.

Election scenario

The BJP appointed Sat Sharma as the working president of Jammu and Kashmir on 9 September 2024, in the election environment. However, this time the party did not give Sharma a ticket for the assembly elections. In the last assembly elections, which took place in 2014, Sharma won from Jammu West seat. But this time the BJP gave a ticket to Arvind Gupta on this seat, who defeated Manmohan Singh of Congress by 22,127 votes. Gupta got 41,963 votes, while Manmohan Singh got 19,836 votes.

Sat Sharma: New State President

Sat Sharma has been given the command of Jammu and Kashmir BJP for the second time. He previously held the post from 2014 to 2018, when the party under his leadership won 25 seats in the Assembly. Sharma is a chartered accountant by profession and was born in a Dogra Brahmin family in Jammu. He obtained a BSc degree from GGM Science College, University of Jammu and became a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India in 1986.

Sat Sharma also held a ministerial post in the BJP-PDP government, in which he was the Cabinet Minister of Housing and Development Department for 40 days. His new appointment makes it clear that the party is changing its strategies for the upcoming elections.

Is Ravindra Raina punished for the defeat?

Ravindra Raina, who led the BJP as state president during the elections, himself faced defeat in his own seat. He lost by 7,819 votes. After the election results, there was a buzz that he had resigned from the post of state president, but there was no official confirmation of this. With the announcement of the new president on Sunday, this possibility has gained further strength.

Election results and the return of the National Conference

This time, assembly elections were held in Jammu and Kashmir after 10 years, in which the alliance of National Conference and Congress won a landslide victory. Omar Abdullah has become the new Chief Minister of the state, while the National Conference got 42 seats and Congress got only 6 seats. BJP won more seats this time than in 2014, winning a total of 29 seats.

Conclusion

These changes in the political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir are not only important for the BJP, but will also affect the politics of the state. Under the new leadership of Sat Sharma, the party is planning to adopt new strategies and approaches for the upcoming elections. It will be interesting to see how the BJP affects its actions and electoral prospects with this new leadership.
