India / 'Siyasi pakhand' to gain sympathy: Adhir on Mamata getting injured

After West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee was injured while campaigning in Nandigram, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said that it was 'siyasi pakhand' (political hypocrisy) to gain sympathy. "Before polls, she planned this 'nautanki' (drama) after sensing difficulties in Nandigram," he said. "She is Police Mantri too. Can you believe that there was no Police with Police Mantri?" Adhir added.

Kolkata: Barely hours after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that she was injured after getting attacked by “a few men” in Nandigram while on the campaign trail, West Bengal Congress chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury accused her of ‘siyasi pakhand’ (hypocrisy) and ‘nautanki’ (theatrics) to gain sympathy from the masses ahead of key assembly polls.

“This is ‘siyasi pakhand’ to gain sympathy. Before polls, she (Mamata Banerjee) planned this ‘nautanki’ (drama) after sensing difficulties in Nandigram,” Chowdhury said on Wednesday, according to news agency ANI.

He said that how could it be possible that when she was allegedly attacked there were no policeman around her.

“She is not just the Chief Minister, she is the ‘Police Mantri’ too. No one can believe that there was no police with Bengal’s ‘police mantri’. When the police have thrown a security cordon in Nandigram, some youth pushing the chief minister is unbelievable,” Chowdhury claimed.

The Lok Sabha MP said that Mamata was resorting to theatrics since she was losing ground in the state.

“Imagine the law-and-order situation for the common people of Bengal when the state's ‘police mantri’ says she was attacked. She is trying to play with the emotions of people,” he said.

Interestingly, Congress’ Anand Sharma, considered a part of the ‘G-23’ dissenters within the party, expressed concern over the incident and wished the CM a speedy recovery.

“Concerned over the physical attack on Mamata Banerjee ji and the injuries she has sustained. Hatred and violence are unacceptable in democracy and must be condemned. Wishing @MamataOfficial a speedy recovery,” Sharma said in a post on social media platform Twitter.

Mamata, earlier on Wednesday, said that she was injured after being allegedly pushed by some unidentified people in Nandigram.

The incident took place in Birulia area when the Chief Minister concluded her campaigning programme in Nandigram to return to Reyapara.
