A terrorist was killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam on Saturday. Another terrorist had escaped from the encounter site but was arrested in Khrew later. "A pistol and a grenade have been recovered from his possession," Kashmir Zone Police tweeted. Police recovered one AK 47 rifle and a pistol from the dead terrorist.

Srinagar: Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir killed an unidentified terrorist in the Budgam region in the wee hours of Saturday. Search operations have been launched in the nearby area to nab other suspected individuals.

The firefight between terrorists and security forces took place after a joint team of the police and the army cordoned off the area and launched a search operation on the basis of specific information about the presence of terrorists in Budgam.

As the security forces zeroed in on the spot where terrorists were hiding they came under a heavy volume of fire that triggered the encounter.

While speaking to media, Kashmir Zone Police confirmed, "One terrorist was killed in the encounter. An AK assault rifle and one pistol were recovered from the slain terrorist," the official said.

The identity and group affiliation of the slain terrorist is being ascertained, he said, adding the search operation in the area is going on.

Earlier on Friday night, two people were injured in a blast that occurred in Banihal. The injured were shifted to the sub-district hospital Banihal, confirmed SSP Ramban PD Nitya.
