Shardiya Navratri: During Navratri, devotees worship Goddess Durga with full devotion and reverence. During the nine days of Navratri, various forms of the Goddess are worshiped, out of which the fifth day is dedicated to Mother Skandamata. In this form of Skandamata, her special glory and worship has special significance. Goddess Skandamata sits with her son Kumar Kartikeya, also known as Skanda. This is the reason why she was named Skandamata.

Form of Skandamata

According to mythological beliefs, Skandamata is a four-armed goddess. She has a lotus flower in two of her hands, Kumar Skanda sits in child form in one hand, and with the fourth hand she holds the arrow. Mother Skandamata sits on a lotus seat, so she is also called Padmasana Devi. Her vehicle is a lion, on which she comes to earth for the welfare of her devotees.

Auspicious time for worship of Maa Skandamata

According to the Vedic calendar, the auspicious time for worshiping Maa Skandamata will be from 11:40 am to 12:30 pm. Worshiping the goddess at this time is considered extremely auspicious and fruitful.

Method of worshiping Skandamata

On the fifth day of Navratri, devotees follow some special methods for worshiping Maa Skandamata. The correct method of worship is as follows:

Take a bath in the morning and wear clean clothes.

Install a picture or idol of Skandamata at the place of worship.

Purify with Gangajal and fill a vase with water, put some coins in it and place it on the stand.

Now take a resolution for worship and apply a tilak of roli-kumkum to Maa Skandamata.

Offer naivedya to the goddess and perform aarti with incense and lamp.

Skandamata loves white color, so worship wearing white clothes and offer bananas to her. It is believed that by doing this the Mother Goddess blesses her devotees with health and a healthy life.

Mantra of Skandamata: Chanting the following mantra during the worship of Mother Skandamata is extremely beneficial: Ya Devi Sarvabhuteshu Maa Skandamata Rupen Sansthita.
