Virat Kohli New Record: Team India's star batsman and former captain Virat Kohli has created history. ICC has given Kohli the biggest honor in ODI cricket. Virat Kohli has been chosen ICC Men's ODI Cricketer of the Year for his excellent performance in the year 2023. Kohli, who made a record with his tremendous batting in the World Cup last year, won the title by defeating his teammates Mohammed Shami and Shubman Gill of Team India in this race. Kohli has won this honor for the record fourth time and has become the first cricketer to do so.

Hardly anyone would have thought about Virat Kohli, who struggled continuously for runs from 2020 to 2022, that after just one year he would return to his old style and leave everyone behind. Kohli had scored two tremendous centuries in the ODI series against Sri Lanka in the first month of 2023 and then also scored a world record 50th century against New Zealand in the semi-finals of the World Cup 2023 in November.

Scored a lot of runs throughout the year

Former captain of Team India, Kohli scored runs continuously throughout the year. During this period, 1377 runs were scored from his bat in 27 matches, which was the second highest number of runs in this format last year. Kohli also scored 6 centuries during this period, out of which 3 centuries came during the World Cup 2023 only. In the World Cup, Kohli scored 765 runs in 11 innings at an average of 95, which is a new record for the highest number of runs in a tournament. During this time, Kohli had broken the record of great batsman Sachin Tendulkar's record of 49 ODI centuries by scoring a century against New Zealand in the semi-finals. He became the first batsman to reach 50 centuries in this format. Apart from this, he scored a half-century in the final also but could not win the title for the team.

Apart from Kohli, he had two more teammates from Team India in this race. Shubman Gill had scored the highest number of 1584 runs in ODI last year, while fast bowler Mohammed Shami had taken 43 wickets including a record 24 wickets in the World Cup. Apart from these, Daryl Mitchell of New Zealand was also in the race but Kohli left them all behind.

Record 10th award

Virat has won the ODI Best Cricketer award for the record fourth time, which is the highest. Earlier, Kohli had won this award in 2012 and 2018, while in 2020 he was chosen as ‘ODI Cricketer of the Decade’. Overall, this is Kohli's 10th ICC award and no one is even close to him in this matter. Even though Kohli is currently out of Team India due to personal reasons, fans will hope that he returns to the field soon and scores runs like this again.
