UAE News: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has launched an amnesty scheme for illegal residents, benefiting Indians. Under this scheme, illegal residents have been given an opportunity to leave the UAE or regularize their status. The Consulate General of India has started the facility of providing Emergency Certificates (EC) and short-term passports under the scheme. The scheme will run for two months and facilitation counters have been made available at the Indian Consulate and Al Avir Immigration Center.Let us tell you that this amnesty scheme of Dubai allows foreign nationals living illegally in the country to regularize their residency status or leave the UAE without penalty. The amnesty program applies to many types of visas including expiry of residence and tourist visa. Apart from this, people living without documents also come under its purview. However, those who have entered the country illegally are excluded from this program.Know what is the amnesty schemeUnder this program, applicants who wish to return to India can apply for an emergency certificate (EC) and those who wish to regularize their residence status can apply for a short-term-validity passport. The Indian Consulate in Dubai said in a statement on Saturday, "Applicants can request for EC at the consulate free of cost. Facilitation counters will be set up at the Consulate General of India in Dubai and Al Awir Immigration Center. The facilitation counters at the consulate will start functioning from September 2.
