IPL 2023: RCB captain Virat Kohli, CSK captain MS Dhoni, Delhi Capitals captain David Warner or any other captain. This time, after every second and third match, you must have heard that the captain has been fined after such and such a match. All this is happening because of the slow over rate penalty. That is, the bowling team is not able to complete its quota of overs on time and after that the captain has to bear the brunt. Sometimes the captains have to pay a fine of Rs 12 lakh and sometimes Rs 24 lakh. But do you know what is this rule and within how much time any team has to complete its overs. So let's try to understand this whole matter in detail.

Teams have to complete 20 overs in 90 minutes in IPL 2023

Whenever a team takes the field for bowling, according to the rules, it has to finish its entire 20 overs within 90 minutes. The strategic time-out of two and a half minutes in between is not counted in this 90 minutes. That is, the total time spent here is 95 minutes. Apart from this, the captain and the batsman also demand DRS in between. Earlier, DRS could be demanded only on outs, but now bowlers and batsmen demand DRS on wides and no balls as well. If you think and understand that because of this the overs are getting delayed then you are wrong. Time is stopped when DRS is called for and thereafter till the final decision of the umpire. That is, it is removed from those 90 minutes.

If found guilty of slow over rate three times, the captaincy goes away for one match.

If the bowling team does not complete its entire 20 overs within 90 minutes, then the captain is fined Rs 12 lakh for the first time. But this fine is imposed on the captain. But if a captain and the team do the same thing for the second time, i.e. are not able to complete the entire over within 90 minutes, then this fine is increased to Rs 24 lakh ie double. But if a team does this again for the third time and gets caught in the case of slow over rate, then a fine of Rs 30 lakh is imposed on it and the special thing is that the captain is also banned for one match. , ie then the same player cannot captain his team, some other player will captain.
