US Presidential Election: US President Joe Biden is facing pressure to withdraw from the presidential nomination and speculation has intensified. A day after Joe Biden's disappointing performance in the first presidential debate against former President Donald Trump, major US media outlets have commented that the current US President should withdraw from the White House race for the future of American democracy and prevent his Republican rival from joining the second innings.

Joe Biden, who is claiming candidacy for a second term in the White House, stumbled during a televised presidential debate with his predecessor Trump on Thursday night in Atlanta. This has left top Democrats worried about whether the 81-year-old president can remain on top in the difficult months before the elections on November 5?

Trump, 78, who is the Republican Party's presumptive nominee for the presidential election, clashed with Biden from the start and by the end of the 90-minute debate, prompted a flood of serious editorials and opinions as well as memes on social media.

Biden falters in debate with Trump

The New York Times editorial board said on Friday that President Biden has proven Trump to be a significant threat to democracy in this November's presidential election and labeled him as a person who has attempted to undermine the integrity of elections.

It says that Joe Biden should announce that he will not contest re-election. The Washington Post editorial said that Biden and the Democrats should consider what to do now. It is up to President Biden to determine whether contesting re-election is in the best interest of the country and further said that former President Donald Trump emphatically proved on Thursday why preventing Trump from becoming a second president is a paramount consideration.

Concern over Biden's disappointing performance

The Los Angeles Times editorial said that for the sake of the nation, Biden should reassure Americans that he is ready for a second term. The media said that the disappointing performance in the debate means that Biden should withdraw from contesting re-election. The president will have to reassure Americans who may now doubt his eligibility for a second term.

The Wall Street Journal opened the Trump-Biden debate by calling it painful for the United States. It wrote that President Biden's halting, stumbling debate performance on Thursday night showed clearly that he is not prepared to serve four more years in office. For the good of the country, more so than his own party, Democrats will have to think hard about whether they need to replace him at the top of their ticket.
