Chhattisgarh / Woman axes husband to death over frequent taunts about her dark skin

A 30-year-old woman allegedly killed her husband with an ax in Chhattisgarh's Durg district as she was upset over constant taunts about his black complexion. After the murder, the accused woman also cut off her husband's private parts. The police has arrested the accused woman.

Chhattisgarh : A 30-year-old woman allegedly killed her husband with an ax in Chhattisgarh's Durg district as she was upset over constant taunts about his black complexion. After the murder, the accused woman also cut off her husband's private parts. The police has arrested the accused woman.

Giving information about this on Tuesday, the police said that the deceased has been identified as Anant Sonwani (40), a resident of Amleshwar village. Police Sub-Divisional Officer (Patan area) Devansh Rathore said that the police on Monday arrested the accused woman Sangeeta Sonwani for allegedly killing her husband Anant Sonwani on Sunday night.

According to preliminary investigation, the victim Anant Sonwani used to call his wife unattractive and often taunted her about her black complexion. He told that the couple had quarreled several times in the past regarding this matter.

The couple had a fight on Sunday night as well and in a fit of rage, Sangeeta allegedly attacked her husband with an ax kept in the house and killed him on the spot, the official said. He said that the woman also allegedly cut off her husband's private parts.

The officer said the accused tried to mislead the villagers the next morning by saying that someone had killed her husband, but later during police interrogation, he confessed to committing the crime. He said that the victim had remarried the accused Sangeeta after the death of his first wife.

Rathore said the woman has been booked under IPC section 302 (murder) and other relevant provisions and further investigation is on.
