JABALPUR: The teenaged son of a Congress MLA allegedly shot himself dead at his residence in Jabalpur on Thursday afternoon.

Vaibhav Yadav, 17, killed himself with a licenced revolver around 4.30pm, said police. He was a Class 12 student. His father, Sanjay Yadav is the Congress MLA from Bargi constituency.

Vaibhav was taken to hospital with a gunshot injury to his skull, and doctors declared him dead after a few minutes. Family members said he shot himself inside the washroom.

"It's a clear case of suicide," Jabalpur SP Siddhartha Bahuguna told TOI.

Police said they found a four-page suicide note, in which the teenager said 'papa-mama acche hain' and that he was solely responsible for this step and no one else should be held accountable.

Police suspect Vaibhav was depressed and that there were some "psychological aspects" that need to be examined.

A crowd gathered outside the house as soon as news spread. Political leaders flocked to the MLA's home to offer their condolences to the family.
