Ghaziabad: At a time when several parts of the country are reporting a rising number of black and white fungus cases, a 45-year-old man who recovered from COVID-19 in Ghaziabad has been diagnosed with the Yellow Fungus infection, becoming the first to suffer from the illness in Uttar Pradesh, a health official said today.The man has been diagnosed with three types of fungal infection - black, white and yellow, which was detected through the endoscopy, said Dr BP Tyagi, an ENT specialist.“The patient's sinus was normal in CT scan but after performing endoscopy we came to know that he contracted three types of fungi (Black, White and Yellow). Yellow fungus is generally found in reptiles. I found this first time in human. There is no reference in any journal about this,” the senior doctor said.'Yellow Fungus infection curable'Dr Tyagi also said the Yellow Fungus infection can be cured by the anti-fungal drug Amphotericin B but it takes time to heal the wound as compared to White and Black fungus."The patient is in Septicemia but he is not well. We are giving him medicine. The administration has assured us for Amphotericin B," he added.Meanwhile, cases of mucormycosis, or "black fungus", a potentially serious condition that causes blurred or double vision, chest pain and breathing difficulties, are on a rise in India, mostly among COVID-19 patients.At least 8,848 such cases have been reported across the country as of May 21, according to the Centre.
