An encounter took place between Naxals and commandos of the specialised CRPF unit CoBRA at a village on the border of Bijapur and Sukma districts of Chhattisgarh on Monday morning. Two CoBRA commandos were martyred and two others were injured in the encounter. "A Naxal was gunned down...and a weapon was recovered from the spot," said a CRPF official.

New Delhi: Two soldiers died, and at least two others have been severely injured after an encounter broke out on Monday between Naxals and CoBRA – an elite unit of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) – at Irapalli village in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh. The encounter is reportedly still underway.

The exchange of fire broke took place around 10:30 AM in a forest in Irapalli village on the bordering areas of Bijapur and Sukma districts in Bastar division when the security forces were out on a counter-insurgency operation, an official told news agency PTI.

“A Naxal was gunned down in the encounter and a weapon was recovered from the spot,” a senior CRPF official said.

“Four personnel of the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) sustained injuries in the gunfight,” he said.
