Uttar Pradesh News: The situation remains tense since the Kartikeshwar Mahadev temple was recently opened to the public in Sambhal district. After the opening of the temple, archaeological excavation work is going on rapidly in the surrounding area, and during this time some important discoveries have further increased the historical importance of the area. According to the latest information, another well has been found during the excavation on Thursday, which is located about 300-400 meters from the Jama Masjid. This well was found in the Sarthal Chowki area of Sambhal Sadar, which has created an atmosphere of more curiosity in the area.Excavation of well and possible temple remainsAccording to the local people, this well has been found in a Hindu-populated area. The municipality team is currently working to remove the soil from above the well. After removing the soil, the work of digging this well will start, due to which the remains of a temple or other structures are expected to be found below it. Some locals are claiming that there may be remains of the temple under the debris. Also, some people also said that many parts of the temple are visible here.Mention of this well in PuranasLocal people consider this well found near Jama Masjid to be historical. A local citizen told that in old times people used to go to Harihar temple to worship after taking bath in this well. It is also being claimed that this well is also mentioned in the Puranas. A person also said that 20 years ago there was water in this well, and there used to be a Mrityunjay Mahadev temple near it. This well is one of the 19 wells, called "Mrityunjay Kup", and its excavation process is currently underway.Discoveries of archaeological importance in SambhalThis is not the first time that archaeological discoveries are taking place in Sambhal. On December 14, during an anti-encroachment drive by the district police and administration, a temple was discovered, which was closed since 1978. Subsequently, on December 22, a team of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) discovered a centuries-old stepwell in Chandausi. The discovery comes after the reopening of the Shiva-Hanuman temple, which opens a new direction of regional history and culture.Discovery of the stepwell and historical significanceDistrict Magistrate Rajendra Pensia said that a stepwell (baoli) spread over an area of 400 square metres has been unearthed. The structure consists of about four chambers, with floors made of marble and bricks. According to local beliefs, this stepwell was built during the time of the grandfather of the king of Bilari. This discovery further enhances the historical significance of the region, and it may be considered more archaeologically important in times to come.These ongoing archaeological excavations and discoveries in Sambhal are important steps towards uncovering the rich history and cultural heritage of the area.
