There has been an increase in the assets of 78 MLAs (77%) who contested again in the Punjab Assembly elections from 2% to 2,954%. This has come to light from a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR). Based on analysis of election affidavits of these 101 MLAs between 2017 and 2022 assembly elections, the average asset growth is 2.76 crore.

Based on analysis of election affidavits of these 101 MLAs between 2017 and 2022 assembly elections, the average asset growth is ₹2.76 crore.

According to the report, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)'s Sukhbir Singh Badal from Jalalabad constituency has declared the highest increase in assets of Rs 100 crore. His wealth increased from ₹102 crore in 2017 to ₹202 crore in 2022. He is followed by Manpreet Singh Badal of the Indian National Congress, whose assets increased from ₹40 crore in 2017 to ₹72 crore in 2022.

Decline in assets of 21 MLAs from -2% to -74%

However, the assets of 21 MLAs have seen a decline from -2% to -74% in the last five years. Among them is Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, whose assets have come down from ₹14.51 crore in 2017 to ₹9.45 crore in 2022. Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu also pointed out a slight decrease in assets. His wealth declined from ₹45.9 crore in 2017 to ₹44.65 crore this year.

Capt Amarinder's wealth rises by 42% in 5 years

According to the report, the assets of former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh increased by 42% in the last five years. His wealth increased from 48.3 crores in 2017 to 68.7 crores in 2022. Congress MLAs who are seeking re-election have seen an increase of 11.13% in their assets. SAD and Aam Aadmi Party MLAs saw an increase of 49.91% and 46.39% respectively. There has been a decrease of 1% in the assets of five BJP MLAs since 2017.
