After heavy snowfall, as soon as the weather clears, the icebergs start falling, due to which many times there is heavy loss of life and property. Now this can be avoided, because now the prior information and warning of falling iceberg will come two hours in advance through SMS in people's mobiles. The Lahaul-Spiti Administration and the Defense Ministry's Research and Development Center DGRE is going to set up an early warning system for this at Dalang in the valley. The project will be ready before the coming winter season arrives.

The observatory of state-of-the-art technology to be installed in Dalang will be connected to the nearby mobile towers within a radius of ten kilometers through software. With this, information about this will reach the people connected to the mobile towers under this radius through SMS, two hours before the iceberg falls. This will be the first project in Himachal Pradesh to give quick information about the fall of icebergs. The Lahaul valley is considered very sensitive to the fall of icebergs. Recently, a vehicle was buried in the snow due to the fall of an iceberg in the valley's Pagalnala. However, all the people were saved safely in this incident.

Whole mountain of Dalang selected for case study

For this, the Lahaul administration has selected the entire mountain of Dalang for a case study. This area is most prone to falling icebergs. Work on this important project will be started here as soon as the snow melts. Deputy Commissioner Lahaul-Spiti Neeraj Kumar said that the district administration has spoken to DGRE for this pilot project.

Information will reach the administration and DGRE first

First of all, the warning of the forecast of falling iceberg will reach the district administration and DGRE. After that, automatic messages will reach the mobile phones falling within the range of mobile towers of the area.

International training will also be discussed

There will be an international training camp for brainstorming on natural calamities like landslides and avalanches from March 21 to 25 in the auditorium of DGRE in Manali, in which this project will also be discussed. The Deputy Commissioner informed that scientists, researchers and experts of international level are participating in this training. Director of DGRE will also be present.
