Earlier, the government had termed the speech of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as inciting violence.

Strict stand of the government

The press wing of interim government chief Mohammad Yunus has issued a statement saying that the government will take strict measures to stop violent activities. The statement said, "Some people and groups are trying to vandalize and set fire to various establishments. The government will strictly prevent such activities and ensure the safety of citizens." It was also made clear by the government that strict punitive action will be taken against those involved in the violence.

Sheikh Hasina held responsible

Earlier, the interim government had said that the demolition of 32 Dhanmondi residence of Bangladesh founder Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was undesirable, but it happened due to Sheikh Hasina's speech from India. The government termed it provocative and said that her words incited the public to violence.

Sheikh Hasina's statement

Sheikh Hasina had said in her address, "They can demolish a building, but cannot erase history. They should also remember that history takes its revenge." After this statement, protesters in Bangladesh vandalized the houses of many leaders of the Awami League party. Also, the memorial of founding leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Dhaka was also damaged and his murals were destroyed. There have also been incidents of arson at many places.
