Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Rita Bahuguna Joshi's eight-year-old granddaughter succumbed to burn injuries after her dress caught fire from crackers on Diwali. She was reportedly playing with other kids on the terrace when her dress caught fire. Nobody could hear her cries due to the noise of crackers, reports added.

Prayagraj: Bharatiya Janata Party MP Rita Bahuguna Joshi’s granddaughter Kiya died after sustaining severe burn injuries on Diwali night. The six-year-old’s clothes reportedly caught fire while playing with oil lamps along with other children in Prayagraj.

According to a news report, Kiya was rushed to a private hospital with 60 per cent burns on Monday night. She passed away early on Tuesday morning before being airlifted to Delhi for further treatment. She was the only child of Joshi’s son Mayank.

A spokesman said the MP’s son Mayank was in Lucknow at the time of the incident and Kiya will be cremated at Prayagraj’s Daraganj after he arrives.
