A woman in Sudan has been sentenced to death by stoning after being found guilty of adultery. No such sentence had been imposed in Sudan for the past decade. A 20-year-old woman named Maryam Alsayed Tayrab was arrested from the White Nile. According to media reports, this matter will now be taken to the higher court. The High Court can also change this decision. Many women's rights organizations have become active here against this decision of the court. The Uganda-based African Center for Justice and Peace Studies (ACJPS) strongly criticized the decision and said that the woman should be released immediately without any conditions. The ACJPS has claimed that the woman was not even given proper legal aid and her case was not even heard properly. The Center said that punishing someone by stoning to death for adultery is a violation of international law. It also violates the right to life. Such inhuman acts, cruelty and atrocities need to stop. Let us tell you that after the imposition of military rule in Sudan, many people are worried that the country may return to the conservative path again. This decision is also being considered as a sign of the same thing. The last time such a sentence was sentenced here was in 2013. The reforms made in the law by the government here in 2020 also did not explicitly exclude the punishment of stone pelting. This issue has also come up in the UN.
