Ankita Murder Case: The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) says that the class 12 student who was set on fire by the man in Dumka district of Jharkhand was a minor. With this, the CWC has demanded action against the accused Shahrukh under the POCSO Act. The committee said the girl was around 16 years old as per her class 10 mark sheet and she was not an adult as claimed by the police.

Dumka CWC President Amarendra Kumar told PTI, "We recommend that sections of the Protection of Child Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act also be added to the FIR as according to our investigation the girl was a minor."

The incident is from Jaruadih locality of Dumka. On August 23, Ankita, a class 12 student residing here, was set ablaze by an eccentric youth named Shahrukh, who lived in her neighbourhood, after spraying petrol. The accused was harassing the minor girl for months, he was also pressurizing her for marriage. On the night of 22 August, he had also threatened to kill Ankita. The next morning, when everyone in the house was sleeping, Shahrukh entered the house and set fire to Ankita by spraying petrol. In the case, the police have arrested the accused Shahrukh and one of his friends.
