Guwahati Defense spokesperson said that a sudden cloud burst over Lhonak Lake in North Sikkim caused flash flood in Teesta river in Lachen valley. He said that some military establishments in the valley have been affected. 23 personnel are reported missing and the search operation is going on. There was flood in Teesta river of Lachen valley. Many military buildings located in the valley were washed away in the floods. Apart from 23 soldiers, many more people are reported missing.

National Highway 10 washed away, state government on high alert

National Highway 10 was washed away in Melli due to flood in Teesta river. There are reports of damage at many places. The area adjacent to Teesta river has been evacuated. The state government is on high alert and the situation is being monitored. On the other hand, West Bengal government is also on alert mode. Tourists are being rescued from Sikkim Gangtok, who are stranded in the high altitude mountain area.

People's lives are being saved - BJP leader Bhutia

Regarding the Sikkim flood incident, BJP leader Ugyen Tshering Gyatso Bhutia said that people's lives are being saved by putting in place government mechanisms. The report is yet to come.
