In 1971, he again won the Mandya Lok Sabha seat on a Congress ticket and entered national politics.

Golden tenure as Chief Minister of Karnataka

SM Krishna was the Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1999 to 2004. During this time he made a significant contribution to the development of the state. Under his leadership, there was a revolution in the IT sector in the state and Bengaluru was established as the "Silicon Valley of India". His policies made Karnataka one of the most emerging states in the country.

Contribution as Foreign Minister and Governor

SM Krishna served as Foreign Minister in the Manmohan Singh government from 2009 to 2012.
