New Delhi : The last rites of India's first Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat, who lost his life in a tragic accident, will be performed on Friday i.e. today. People will be able to pay homage to the outstanding commander who was martyred along with his wife and 11 other armed forces personnel in a military helicopter crash near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday in Delhi.

According to the day's plan, shared by news agency PTI, the bodies of General Rawat and his wife Madhulika will be kept at their Kamaraj Marg residence from 11 am to 12:30 pm so that the general public can pay their last respects.

The slot between 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm will be kept for the military personnel to pay respect to the brave general and his wife. General Rawat's last journey from his residence to the Berar Square crematorium is scheduled to begin around 2 pm. According to the news agency, the last rites of the late CDS Rawat are scheduled at 4 pm. At the same time, the last rites of Brigadier LS Lidar will be performed at 9 am.

Although the Indian Air Force (IAF) has confirmed the death of 13 people in the helicopter crash on Wednesday afternoon, only three bodies have been identified so far. The bodies of General Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat and Brigadier Lidar have been identified. Other bodies are being kept in the mortuary of the Army Base Hospital till they are identified.

PM Modi and Defense Minister paid tribute

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval were among those who paid tributes to the martyred soldiers of the armed forces at Palam airport on Thursday. Top military officials of the country including Indian Army Chief General MM Naravane, Indian Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar, Air Chief Marshal AVR Choudhary and Defense Secretary Ajay Kumar also paid their last respects at a condolence ceremony.

Squadron Leader Kuldeep Singh's funeral also today

The family members of Air Force Squadron Leader Kuldeep Singh, who died in the helicopter crash, and local villagers have started preparations for his last rites at Ghardana Khurd village in Jhunjhunu district. The mother of Squadron Leader Kuldeep Singh says that she is proud of her son's martyrdom for the country. He said, "This is my son's earnings." Talking to reporters inside his house, he said, "My son has earned very well... He raised his hands twice and said 'Vande Mataram'. ''

Kuldeep Singh was married only two years ago. Local sarpanch Umaid Singh Rao said, “The villagers have decided to perform the last rites of Singh in the grounds of Mahatma Gandhi Government School in the village. A statue of him will also be installed there. The education department has given the nod to perform the cremation in the school grounds.”
