India-Canada Relations: India has summoned the Deputy High Commissioner of Canada. Canadian Deputy High Commissioner Stewart Wheeler will reach the Foreign Ministry office shortly. Canada has linked the Indian High Commissioner and diplomats as 'person of interest' in the investigation of the Hardeep Singh Nijjar murder case, which India openly criticized and warned calling it an 'absurd allegation'.

India has also indicated that this move of the Trudeau government may be part of an attempt to tarnish India's image. The Ministry of External Affairs has said that Trudeau has tried to take political advantage earlier as well. The ministry has also given the example of his 2018 visit to India, where he tried to do vote bank politics.

Canada did not provide evidence

The Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement on Monday and also said that the Canadian government did not share evidence of the allegations. India accused Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of vote bank politics for political gain. India has said that despite its demand, Canada has not presented any concrete evidence of India's involvement in Nijjar's murder.

Canada made allegations

The Canadian government had accused India of Nijjar's murder and since then there has been tension between the two countries. In September 2023, Trudeau had made serious allegations against India, saying that Indian agents were involved in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India had clearly termed such allegations as 'motivated'.
