Adani Group / India will become the world's semiconductor hub, 6 manufacturing plants will be set up

To make India a semiconductor hub, the central government has approved six plants, which will entail a total investment of Rs 2.36 lakh crore. These plants include Adani Group, Micron, Tata, and other companies. The government is providing 50% capital assistance, which is expected to create lakhs of jobs.

Adani Group: The central government of India has taken concrete steps towards making the country a global semiconductor hub. Given the growing role of semiconductors and its future importance, large-scale investments are being made in this sector by global and domestic companies. Under the Government of India's 'India Semiconductor Mission' (ISM), 50 percent capital assistance is being provided to companies setting up semiconductor plants. This will not only increase the technical capacity of the country, but will also provide employment to lakhs of youth.

Adani Group and Tower Semiconductor project in Raigad, Maharashtra

A huge semiconductor manufacturing plant is being set up in collaboration with Adani Group and Israeli company Tower Semiconductor in Panvel in Raigad district of Maharashtra. A total investment of Rs 83,947 crore will be made for this project, which will be completed in two phases. Upon completion of the first phase, the plant will have a production capacity of 40,000 wafers per month, and by the end of the second phase, the capacity will reach 80,000 wafers per month.

Micron's OSAT plant in Gujarat

US chip maker Micron is setting up an outsourcing assembly and testing unit (OSAT) plant in Sanand district of Gujarat with an investment of Rs 23,000 crore. This will be India's first semiconductor plant where DRAM and NAND products will be assembled and tested. The plant's chips will be supplied to domestic and global markets. The central government is providing 50 per cent financial assistance and the Gujarat government 20 per cent. The plant may start operating by mid-next year.

Tata-PSMC fabrication plant in Gujarat

Tata Group and Taiwanese company Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) are building a semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera, Gujarat. An investment of Rs 91,000 crore will be made in this plant, with 50 per cent of the capital expenditure provided by the central government. The plant will have a production capacity of 50,000 wafers per month and its production can start by December 2026.

TATA Electronics' Greenfield Plant in Assam

TATA Electronics is setting up a greenfield semiconductor assembly and testing facility at Jagiroad, Morigaon, Assam. This will be the first semiconductor plant in the North East, with an investment of Rs 27,000 crore.

CG Power's OSAT Plant in Sanand

CG Power, in collaboration with Japan's Renesas Electronics and Thailand's Stars Microelectronics, is setting up a state-of-the-art OSAT plant in Sanand, Gujarat. An investment of Rs 7,600 crore will be made in this plant over the next five years. Semiconductors used in consumer electronics, industrial equipment and 5G technology will be manufactured here. This plant will produce around 1.5 crore chips per day.

Kyne Semicon's OSAT plant in Sanand

Kyne Semicon is setting up an OSAT plant in Sanand, Gujarat with an investment of Rs 3,307 crore. The capacity of this plant will be 63 lakh chips per day. This plant has recently received approval from the Cabinet.

Due to all these projects, the semiconductor sector in India is growing rapidly. This will not only increase the technological self-reliance of the country, but will also create new employment opportunities. This initiative of the central government will infuse a new energy in the Indian industry and strengthen India's position in the global semiconductor market.
