Kharge said on Tuesday, 'The talk of Sonia Gandhi suggesting my name for the post of Congress President is just a rumour. I never said this. He has clearly said that no member of the Gandhi family will neither be a part of the election nor will support anyone.

Tharoor-Kharge are candidates

Shashi Tharoor and Mallikarjun Kharge are the candidates in the race for Congress President. Kharge said, 'Someone has spread rumors to defame Congress party, Sonia Gandhi and me. She has clearly said that she will neither participate in the party elections nor will she support anyone.

Kharge said the party members have chosen the representatives, who number 9,300 and they will vote for the candidates. Whoever gets the majority will be elected. Talking about the representatives of Uttar Pradesh, 1250 votes will be cast from there. Kharge said, 'I am not seeing the possibility for myself here. Those who have asked me to contest elections will be responsible for my victory.

'The condition of the country is bad'

Earlier on Sunday, Kharge had said that he is contesting for the post of Congress President because the situation in the country is very bad and he wants to fight him. Kharge said, "I have made my manifesto by incorporating the announcements of Udaipur Chintan Shivir. 50 percent posts in the organization will be given to people below 50 years of age and whatever other announcements are there, I will also implement them. I am sure that I will get everyone's support.

On the other hand, Shashi Tharoor will come to Gujarat today to campaign for the top post of the party. Tharoor will begin his tour by paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi at the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad.
