India-China Relation: Chinese President Xi Jinping mentioned the 'Panchsheel Principles' to curb the growing conflicts in the world. Friday was the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the principles of Panchsheel. On this occasion, Xi Jinping mentioned the 5 principles of peaceful coexistence (Panchsheel). India has named the five principles of peaceful coexistence as 'Panchsheel'. According to the Global Times report, the Chinese President said that the five principles of Panchsheel met the demand of the time. He said that in the last 70 years it has been proved again and again that an effective way to face challenges and build a better future is to increase unity, cooperation, communication and mutual understanding.

Jinping said - China will remain on the path of peaceful development

On this occasion, Jinping talked about emphasizing on increasing China's influence in the Global South. He also said that there will be no change in China's resolve to remain on the path of peaceful development, maintain friendship with all countries and promote shared development around the world.

In his address, Jinping said that the five principles of peaceful coexistence started in Asia, but soon they became popular on the world stage. He said that Panchsheel fulfilled the demand of the time and its beginning was a historic event. The Chinese President said that the Panchsheel principles have today become the common property of the international community.

No one from India participated

On the occasion of the anniversary of the Panchsheel Agreement, leaders and officials of countries close to China, including former Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, former Guyana President Donald Ramotar, participated. According to some reports, India was also invited to participate in it but no official attended it.

On April 29, 1954, the leaders of the three countries jointly laid the foundation of these principles to resolve the border dispute between India-China and China-Myanmar. In China it is called 'Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence' while in India it is called 'Principle of Panchsheel'. Then Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Chinese Prime Minister Chou Enlai agreed on the principles of Panchsheel.

What are the principles of Panchsheel

The principles of Panchsheel include 'respect for each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity', 'non-aggression', 'non-interference in each other's internal affairs', 'equality and mutual benefit', and 'peaceful co-existence'.

Under this agreement, India accepted Tibet as a region of China, thus at that time this treaty had largely removed the tension in the relations between India and China.

It was only after the Panchsheel agreement that slogans of Hindi-Chini Bhai-Bhai were raised and India adopted a non-aligned attitude. But then in 1962, China imposed war on India, which deeply hurt the basic spirit of this treaty.
