Share Market News: Although the Sensex saw an increase of nearly 8% in 2024, investors in the stock market witnessed a much higher growth of over 21% in their earnings. This figure is directly related to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) market capitalization, which saw a total increase of ₹77.77 lakh crore. Notably, for the first time this year, BSE's market cap crossed the $5 trillion mark. However, over the past three months, there has been a consistent decline in the stock market, which led to a reduction in BSE’s market cap and caused losses for investors. Despite this, the BSE has seen a continuous increase in market cap for the past six years.

At the start of 2024, it was expected that BSE’s market cap might surpass the 2021 record, which had seen a growth of more than 41%. However, this did not happen. Let’s now take a closer look at how much BSE's market cap increased in 2024 and the factors behind it.

How Much Did BSE's Market Cap Increase in 2024?

Why Didn’t the 2021 Record Get Broken?

At the beginning of 2024, there were indications of an increase in BSE’s market cap, which led to hopes of surpassing the 2021 record. In 2021, BSE saw an increase of ₹77,96,692.95 crore, which was a growth of 41.46%. However, in 2024, this figure did not surpass the 2021 record, both in terms of value and percentage growth.

Conclusion

Although BSE’s market cap did not break its previous records this year, the numbers for 2024 have still been positive. The consistent increase in BSE’s market cap has been a good sign for investors. However, the fluctuations in the market continue, and it has highlighted the need for investors to remain cautious. Nonetheless, it is clear that BSE's progress over the past six years has been quite impressive.
